Everyone who studies poker know that the proper way to play is aggressive. But too many middling players strive to increase their aggression at any cost, resorting to Dumb Aggression.

Users of Poker Tracker seem to be especially vulnerable to the Dumb Aggression disease. Rather than trying to always play their hand the most profitable way, they strive to increase their AggressionFactor to a certain "magic number." If they can't hit the number, they resort to bad plays to make it happen. Common example: BettingMissedFlops.

Aggression Factor for any given street is (bets + raises) / calls. This means that if you learn when to make smart calls, you will lower your aggression factor. Also, some aggression is intended to get you a FreeCard. . . but people resorting to Dumb Agression don't take their free cards. Sometimes, you shouldn't take a free card -- but sometimes you should. Don't be afraid to check -- it won't lower your AF. It's not even in the equation.

Ironically, most amateurs would improve their game if you took away their "call" button and made them always choose to raise or fold. But forcing yourself into such a dumb strategy is foolish.
